Disclaimer: While capturing photos for this project, I had no bias whether or not I favored the business whose logos I decided to capture then later include in this project. I am not sponsored nor endorsed by any of these businesses in any way. I took these photos from public property (sidewalks and road shoulders) and I am protected by The Photographer’s Right and the 1st Amendment.
Logos are everywhere you go. They help us distinguish different businesses from each other. Some use easy-to-remember imagery, while others are merely stylized text. In a small city like Redding, California (where I currently live as of writing this) you get a mixture of corporate and locally owned businesses. In my opinion, locally owned businesses have more uniquely designed logos. And that was what I chose to capture: Uniquely designed logos in Redding, California. But, that is not all I tried to capture. Since logos often are part of a building, in some of my photos I have also included architecture (one of my favorite categories of photography) that complements the business’s logo.
I got inspired to pursue this project one day when I was just browsing unsplash.com (a free stock photography website). I searched for logos and some really amazing photos of recognizable logos were retrieved from Unsplash’s extensive database of images. So I thought to myself “I can capture interesting images of logos, too. I have experience in graphic design so I know a great logo when I see one”. So I did and I actually surprised myself with how my images had turned out.
There are three concepts that I followed when working on this project:
